Potty Training Twins

I am about to start potty training the girls. I get panic attacks just thinking about this. I think here will be a good place to share all of it- the good, the bad, the dirty- in hopes of maybe helping out another twin mom in the future.

We have had potties around for months now. They are encouraged to sit on them, but we don't make it a regular thing. M has peed on the potty quite a few times. S has peed once, I think. She is definitely not as ready as M! I am done with work in a week and 3 days, and then it will be potty training in full effect!

I know everyone says to skip the pull-ups, but the more I thought about having two running around with nothing there to catch it, the more I panicked. I have thought about this for over a week now. I think I have thought about it way too much! I decided that we will start with pull-ups. I think they have two diapers left, and then it will be pull-ups. I may try putting M in undies and see how she does, but there is no way I can do both like that at once.

I think I am so nervous because well, I haven't done this before! I hate the unknown. But I need to remind myself that this, like everything else, will be a learning process, and I will do what works for us, and that the girls will learn...eventually.

Feel free to share any tips you have! I'm not going to promise that I will try any of the tips, or that I will think your tip is the best, but I will read them and probably try them.

Deep breaths...deep breaths... we will survive...

I learned with kids after my first to let them ask to be trained. Explain it and when they want pretty panties let them ask for them, but tell them what it requires. It is easy and usually no or very few accidents IF it is their idea.

I'm glad I'm not the only one facing this conundrum...my twins were born in August, so they're a little younger than yours. I wish you luck and please keep posting...I need advice on this!

All I can say to you is The Potty Boot Camp by Suzanne Riffel. Best money I have ever spent! www.thepottybootcamp.com

Best of all I just downloaded it right off the internet and didn't have to chase the book down somewhere.

I'm pregnant with g/g twins and 31 weeks. I'm hoping girls will be easier than my last two autistic sons. Whew.... here's a tip. I think the one at a time thing is good with the underwear. One will get jealous and try to "imitate" the other once they start getting candy for going to the potty! They also make the "cold" pull-ups that don't feel so good when you pee in them. That helps. Spend about a week indoors, get them drinking, and literally just watch for the wet spots on the panties/underwear. Then without scaring them, say, uh-oh.....hold it, hold it...and get them over to the potty to try again. They probably won't be able to "pee" on command for a while, but they will get "conditioned" hint that when I start to pee - mommy sends me to the potty. Eventually their bladder will give out and you might get an accidental "drip" in the potty - then pull out the dollar bills, m&m's, whatever motivates them. Hopefully, one will gets spurred on by the other - and you'll be on your way. Let me know how it goes - I've done kids with Aspergers which was a nightmare - but never two at once. I guess I'll get my chance soon. I teach 6-8 redirection BTW...and have been reading your blog for a little while. :-) Blessings - Dawn and the Sellers Family - Dawn, Jon, Bree, Zane, Braden, and the two girls we are expecting soon - Addison and Bianca!

Yes Mummy, you will survive - there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Try not to be nervous - the more relaxed and calm you are, the easier the learning process will be and don't panic if there is an accident here and there. After all, they are only human - little ones. Here's a tip that may work well for you - just as you had to establish which twin was fed first, so you will need to establish the potty training pecking order. Its a hard job being a Mummy - you're doing just fine so keep smiling.
